During its 39 years of existence, the Research Center has engaged continuously in policy-oriented research and in data collection and analysis designed to help local businesses, non-profit organizations, and governments. From the beginning, it has focused the bulk of its attention on the area's changing economy, population change, labor force characteristics, social conditions, physical development needs, college students issues, and public policy issues. In recent years, the Center has published major papers on chronic poverty in the Washington area and strategies for its reduction through employment.
